The One Thing You MUST Have to Reach Your Goals This Year

Lose weight.  Check.

Make more money.  Check.

Have a wonderful relationship.  Check.

Chances are one of these 3 goals is on your list of New Year’s resolutions.  But you’ll never achieve them unless you have one secret ingredient.  Read on to learn how you can not only reach your goals, but take your life to new heights!

Most people resolve to reach certain goals each year, but inevitably they fail.  This is due to lack of one thing – a positive self-image!  Without it, your chances of succeeding at reaching your goals, or at having a happy life, are slim to none

“The person we believe ourselves to be will always act in a manner consistent with our self-image.” – Brian Tracy

It could be said that self-image is everything.  After all, your self-image dictates, determines and drives everything that you do.  It dictates how you dress, the car you drive and the career you choose.  It determines how you are treated by others, how successful you are and how much you give of yourself.  It drives your attitude, your income and your connection to others.  In a nutshell, the image you have of yourself and who you are creates the results you have in our life.  If you don’t have a good self-image, chances are you’re not happy with your life, and vice versa.

The image you have of yourself and who you are creates the results you have in our life.

If you take a good, long look at what you say and what you are/do/have, you may begin to notice some incongruencies.  If you say you want to take your business to the next level and be successful, but you dress in frumpy old clothes, don’t take the time to put on makeup or are afraid to approach your ideal clients, think about the message you’re sending. It’s more than just being too busy to take the time to look good or make a sales call.   More than likely it’s a lack of confidence or a fear of failure that stop you in your tracks.  If deep down you don’t have the confidence that you’ll succeed, your actions are like self-sabotage.  They serve to make you right despite the fact that you say you want success.  If your thoughts and your goals are not in alignment, you’ll create what you think about rather than what it is you say you want.  In short, your self-image may be keeping you from achieving your goals.  Once you can change it, you begin to change your life.

Your self-image is how you think of yourself.  It’s who you think you are and how you think you show up in the world.  Think is the operative word here because your thoughts are what drive your self-image.  It’s not necessarily fact-based, but rather based on your experiences, as well as the expectations that you create around how you see yourself.   But the good news is that you can make the changes necessary that will enable you to achieve any goal you put your mind to.

Take your goals, for example.  If losing weight is one of your goals, ask yourself why.  I talk with so many women who say that when they lose 10, 20, 50 pounds then they want to work on their image, go shopping, get a makeover, etc.  They feel that because society tells us that being overweight is a no-no that they ‘should’ lose the weight and that until they do, they are unworthy of looking good or taking care of themselves.  I know.  I’ve been there and done that.  And nothing could be further from the truth.

The truth is that you’re good enough right now.

  • You’re beautiful.
  • You’re worthy.
  • You’re loved.
  • You’re complete.

That’s how you were created.  Yet the disconnect comes in when you start to compare yourself – to your sister, your friends, what your mother thinks, the women you see on TV, etc.  And it’s one big downer.  So to appease your ego, you set a goal to lose weight, get a new job, etc.  But deep in your heart of hearts, you don’t feel worthy, so you self-sabotage.  It’s a vicious cycle that you can stop, if you put your mind to it.

To get off the roller coaster of low self-esteem and poor self-image, I want you to do things backwards.  Instead of waiting to lose weight to look your best, ask yourself what you could do right now to look like a million bucks. Sometimes you have to fake it ’til you make it.

  • Get a new haircut?
  • Wear some makeup?
  • Put together a fabulous outfit?

Often you’re just a few millimeters away from the changes that can truly transform your image, yet you don’t even realize it. Start by telling yourself something positive each day like “I am beautiful” or even “I’m grateful that I am healthy”.  Start small, but when you can begin to embrace who and what you are – warts and all – then your self-confidence will get the boost it needs so that you believe in yourself. Once you believe in and love yourself, you’ll quit undermining and sabotaging your goals.  Because you’ll know that you can achieve anything you put your mind to.
