I love the thrill of a bargain, and I have to admit, I get it honestly. Growing up, I was among a clan of chic and well-dressed women who took shopping seriously. It wasn’t just something we did to fill a need – it was elevated to almost sport-like status. We would delight in telling each other how much we paid for something – or rather, how little – when we were complimented. It went something like this:
“Oh, Teena, I just love your blouse – it’s gorgeous!” Then Aunt Teena, a petite redhead who was always stylish and memorable in her own way, would strike a model-like pose and very matter-of-factly inform us, “Anne Klein – $29.99 from Steinmart!” with the pride one would normally reserve for a noteworthy accomplishment. But heck, I guess saving 75% or more on something that looks fabulous can be pretty noteworthy.
We made a game to see who could find the best bargain. In the end, I learned some great tips and shopping became almost a competition, seeing who could score the best bargain! Since those formative years I have continued the tradition and cultivated my love for bargain shopping. And this time of year is a wonderful time to score some bargains that would make my Aunt Teena proud! We’re even having our very own semi-annual clearance sale at StyleFinder Boutique where you can stock up on some great pieces while getting expert advice from our Stylista’s.
Yet one thing I have learned over the years is that building out my entire wardrobe on clearance racks is just not feasible. While there is a time and place for bargain shopping, there are definitely times to invest in a wardrobe. Building your wardrobe intentionally and planning what you need will ensure that you always have something to wear and can save you hours of frustration and panic. Saving money while you build a wardrobe that will further your career, ensure your image success and boost your confidence is just icing on the cake!
Looking fabulous for less may sound too good to be true, but it is actually easier than you might think once you have a few tricks up your sleeve. Stay tuned for more articles in this series to help you make the sales work FOR you, not against you!
