How Hiding Out is Aging You

Are you hiding out? I don’t mean ducking for cover, on the run from the likes of secret agent, James Bond.  No, what I’m talking about is hiding in your clothes.  And I think you know what I mean…

Wearing baggy, frumpy clothes.

Not putting yourself together.

In need of a new hairstyle and a little makeup.

Feeling like you’ve given up.

Strike a chord?  If so, let me help you to excavate yourself out of this pit because it’s doing nothing for your self-esteem, and because it’s also adding years to your appearance.  That’s right, hiding out is aging you!

It’s fairly common these days.  We women are busy creatures, taking care of everyone in our lives – our kids, our spouses, our clients, our parents…but what about ourselves?  When you put yourself last on your list and let your style become a thing of the past, it not only adds years to your appearance, it diminishes your self-esteem.  And I know that’s not how you want to live your life!

So how do you get out of this rut?  It’s not as hard as you might think.  A few small tweaks, a couple of baby steps.  But the biggest part is making the decision to change.  That’s right.  You need to desire more from your appearance before any lasting changes can happen.  And I don’t just mean getting your nails done and stopping there.

Let’s address the most common pitfalls with some easy-to-follow guidelines for getting yourself out gracefully:

1/ Wearing frumpy, baggy clothes – This is by far the most common issue, and girl, you’re not alone.  We’ve all been there and done that.  But now it’s time to pull yourself up by your big-girl panties and put something on that makes you shine!

Why you are here: Chances are you’ve gained weight.  Maybe you hit menopause, your schedule got out of control and you’ve been surviving on fast food, or you have gone through a tough time and are an emotional eater.  Whatever the reason, the fix is simple.

How to get out: Ditch the baggy sweatpants and oversized shirts and put on something that fits.  And I mean really fits.  Not tight, but that shows your shape.  You’ll immediately look 10 lbs. thinner!  If you realize that nothing else fits you, it’s time for some new clothes.  It’s time for a personalized shopping experience.  At StyleFinder we work with each individual client to deliver just that, helping you get what you need for where you are in your life.  We’ll show you how amazing you can look whatever your size (we carry sizes 0 – 16) and leave you wondering why you ever ‘hid’ behind your clothing before!  You look years younger and pounds thinner.  You feel beautiful!  Your confidence soars, you are now excited to get dressed and your baggy clothes are a thing of the past.  True story.

2/ Not putting yourself together: It can be so easy to just get up, throw on the same ol’ same ol’ and go.  Those soft leggings, a tunic and slip-on shoes.  Forget about accessories, putting together a cute outfit or those cute new shoes sitting at the back of your closet.  You just don’t care.

Why you are here: Life is busy and ease is the name of the game.  You think you don’t have time to look good, and if you did you wouldn’t even know what to do.  So you just go with what you know and call it a day. Your clothes do nothing to inspire you and your attitude is lackluster at best.

How to get out: Take some time for you!  It’s been a while, but it’s time to reconnect to who you are and what makes you shine!  Get a massage, take a bubble bath or just sit quietly in nature to gather your thoughts.  Then get into your closet and put together a ‘new’ outfit, made up of pieces you love and that fit you to a T.  Add in accessories, great shoes and a jacket, scarf, etc.  Grab that new handbag you haven’t had a chance to use yet and see how it makes you smile!  You leave the house with a spring in your step and notice that the barista is checking you out while you’re ordering your coffee.  Girl, you’ve still got it!

3/ In need of a new hairstyle and a makeup update:  Every so often we need a lift and changing your hairstyle or updating your makeup can be just what you need.

Why you are here: You have put yourself last on your list and haven’t focused on you.  It’s time to stop that now.

How to get out: If you feel that your hair stylist is in a rut along with you, find a new one.  Ask someone whose hair you love for a referral and give it a shot!  Search Pinterest for the latest trends and find a couple that might work for you.  Then have a consultation with your new stylist to discover what’s possible.  From there, find a trusted makeup expert (we love Joi Harrison-Turner) and have a lesson, or just look at some new colors and techniques that will make the most of what you have.

Getting out of a rut doesn’t have to be hard, but it does take some effort.  Once you put your mind to it, you’ll find the time to make it happen.  And once you see how great it makes you feel, it will keep you going!  Good luck!
