Keeping up with the trends each season goes a long way with keeping your wardrobe looking fresh and modern, and prevents you from looking dated and frumpy.  Skip a few seasons and suddenly you begin to fall into a rut, feel matronly and not nearly as chic and contemporary as you would like to be.  However, embracing the trends each season isn’t at all about being dictated to.  I want to encourage you to keep an eye on the trends and then use them merely as suggestions for what you could bring into your wardrobe.

The top 10 Trends Worth Noting include:

/ Bare Shoulders – by now you’ve seen the ‘cold-shoulder’ top or dress that Hoda loves to love on weekday TV. But have you tried it for yourself?  This simple, easy-to-wear piece is an instant hit, giving just a peek of skin in a place that ‘is the last to go’.  Wear with jeans, modern fit pants, shorts, skirts, etc.  You’ll want one in every color!

/ Tie-Dyed, Ombre – A throwback to the 70s, as many trends are this season, I’m loving the tie-dyed and ombre look because they are so simple, yet so stunning.  A simple, silky tie-dyed tunic in silk can be worn to a wedding or other dressy occasion, then dressed down for a more casual event.  Try it in scarves, tops, tunics, dresses, and even hair!

/ Black and White – This classic is always a hit, but this spring it’s even more so! Look for black and white prints in pants, dresses, jackets and handbags to set off your look. Make it pop with a shot of color in your shoes, your top or your handbag.

/ Lingerie-inspired looks – While you may not want to show your undies off, try a peek of a lace from beneath a tunic, on a scarf or under a blouse.  Just a hint is all you need to bring a feminine edge to your look.

/ Great White Shirt – The while blouse is having a moment, albeit a long one.  It’s been several seasons since we’ve seen this classic piece in the spotlight, but with good reason – there are a million ways to wear it and it never goes out of style.

/ Modern Fit Pant – Forget bulky zippers, bunchy crotches and pant-legs that are big and baggy.  This new pull-on style is slimming, flattering and fits most every body.  You’ll wonder how you ever wore anything else!

/ Voluminous Sleeves – A romantic rendition on a slim-sleeve, the full sleeve is in the spotlight.  Not for everyone, this sleeve can be flattering, but can also visually add pounds if you’re not careful.  Opt for a 3/4 length to avoid being overpowered.

/ Marled Knits – Knits that are made from 2 colors of yarn make for a relaxed and casual look.  Think heather grays, soft blues and other hues that are perfect for tops, cozy pants and more.

/ Fringe – Another 70s throwback, fringe can be worn by just about anyone in many ways.  Try a fringed jacket or handbag, or a tassel necklace to bring just a hint of boho chic to your look.

/ Bohemian Inspiration – The boho look is huge yet again, and we’re seeing folkloric-inspired prints in tunics, dresses, skirts and more.  Mixed prints, handwrought details and a hippie-chic nod to the 70’s are hot hot hot!  Just a touch is all you need to rock this trend – or break out your Stevie-Nicks inspired layers and stand back!  All eyes will be on you!
